The Center for Earth Jurisprudence (CEJ) is situated at Barry University School of Law. Its duty is to progress legal values, laws, policies and authority that reflect a transformative Earth-centered framework that supports the health and well-being of all of Earth’s population.
CEJ is founded in 2006, and it advances legal approach that enhances mutual and interdependent relationships with ecosystem and natural process that sustain life. Earth jurisprudence recognizes the require for new lawful and financial systems that consider the complex and mutually dependent relationships, interests, natural processes, inherent value and limited ability of nature to renew itself. CEJ strive to develop both attitude and practice of law that respect the natural earth, distinguish humans as integral members of the wider society, and advocate for broader legal protection of the ecosystems and natural processes so that they can coexist, thrive and develop.
CEJ fulfill its duty by scheming and training law school curriculum, donating learning programs, providing publication, and networking with other partners in providing legal analysis and projected policies. CEJ participates in planned alliance with other environmental and community-based organizations, artists, philosophers, engineers, scientists, lawyers, indigenous peoples, and people of faith to encourage increased legal protection of nature.
